McDermott Pool Cues

McDermott has been building cues in Wisconsin since 1975, and the company still finishes every cue in the United States. Two things set the brand apart in practice: the inlay work is genuine — cut and set, not printed — and every McDermott cue carries a lifetime warranty against warping. That warranty is the reason league players keep buying the brand: a McDermott bought today is expected to be straight in twenty years.

The series

G-Series — the heart of the line and the widest choice: stained birdseye and curly maple, bocote and walnut, with Irish linen wraps or wrapless handles, and inlay work ranging from a few points to twelve-inlay designs. Most G-Series cues run the 3/8×10 joint and the low-deflection G-Core shaft.

H-Series — the performance tier: i-2 shafts, quick-release joints and the VBP adjustable weight system, which lets you change the cue's weight without changing the cue.

Select Series — urethane and painted finishes with embossed wraps, including models supplied with a carbon fiber shaft.

M-Series and named cues — Knight, Bridgeport and the Wildfire designs, where the inlay work is the point: geckos, lizards, birds of prey, cocobolo and turquoise.

Jump/break cues — the Stinger line with phenolic tips and a quick-release jump joint.

What you are choosing between

Tip size is 12.75 mm across the playing cues — slightly finer than a house 13 mm, which is what makes the cue-ball control noticeably better. The joint is usually 3/8×10, a wood-to-wood threaded connection with a firm hit; the H-Series and several named cues use a quick-release joint instead, which assembles in a quarter turn.

A G-Core or i-2 shaft is the practical difference between a cue that looks good and one that plays better than what you own now: less cue-ball deflection means english you can aim rather than compensate for.
